Tutoring and Mentoring
I am available for tutoring and mentoring of students middle school-aged through undergraduate-level.
For tutoring in math, science, engineering, and technology (STEM) subjects (both temporary project-based or for longer-term) please view my tutoring profile on the Knowledge Roundtable.
For mentoring and community outreach projects, please contact me.
I am also pleased to offer consultation for adults returning to school.
I am available for face-to-face meetings in Ridgecrest, CA as well as through email, phone, and video-conferencing for those not in the immediate vicinity. Contact me for more information.
Undergraduate University Application Process
(High school students, community college students, and returning adults)
In addition to being successful in applying to and being accepted to top-rated 4-year Universities, I worked for 5 years in financial aid and student programs at Skyline College. In this role, I assisted hundreds of students (high school through returning adults) in applying for financial aid, finding support programs and educational opportunities, and in transferring to 4-year universities. I can assist with the process of narrowing down university choices, the application process, writing personal entrance essays, in preparing for the transition, and in maintaining success throughout your university experience.
Graduate School Application Process
(University students and returning adults)
I recently graduated from Cornell University with an M.S. in Geological Sciences. I am well-versed in the application process, writing the Personal History Statement and Statement of Purpose, in studying for and taking the GRE, in contacting and meeting with faculty at potential graduate programs, and in establishing successful routines for stress reduction and time management.

Encouraging Excitement and Success in STEM
Whether or not college is in the near-future, or even officially part of the plan, success in STEM subjects reinforces critical thinking, which can improve many other aspects of life.
Involvement in STEM also opens up a vast network of opportunities for career advancement. Opportunities in STEM careers are quickly growing and will continue to outpace growth in non-STEM fields (1). My favorite way of teaching is to find ways that relate the subject to the students' interests, to engender an enthusiasm and a curiosity that will carry them through and beyond the frustrations of learning toward a deeper understanding of the material. Let me help your student in building the foundation in STEM that will launch them into a future we can all be proud of.
Inspiring Girls and Young Women in STEM
Build self-confidence, reinforce analytical and critical thinking skills, and encourage creativity that will extend well beyond the next math or science homework assignment. Presently, women are still vastly underrepresented in STEM fields, particularly in Engineering and Technology (2). Though often unintentional, girls don't often receive the same encouragement as boys and have fewer role models STEM active in their lives, at home and in movies, TV shows, books, and games. As a successful woman in science, I would be delighted to provide tutoring, mentoring, and act as a positive role model to your daughter, niece, granddaughter, sister, friend, self, etc.
