ABOUT ME
I earned an M.S. degree in Geological Sciences from Cornell University in August 2017. My graduate thesis at Cornell focused on the seismicity within the Shumagin seismic gap in the Alaska-Aleutian subduction zone. High precision hypocenter relocation on an earthquake catalogue spanning nearly a decade elucidated the seismogenic character of the shallow thrust zone, with an abrupt transition in seismicity at 44 km depth and shallow structures, ~35–40 km depth, that suggest active normal splay faults which may have important implications relating to tsunami hazard of the region. I completed this research with direction from my graduate committee members Katie Keranen, Geoff Abers, and Rick Allmendinger at Cornell University.
Before moving to Cornell, I studied geology as an undergraduate at U.C. Santa Cruz. While working toward my B.S., I sought out different experiences in earth science by working in a paleoceanography lab, tutoring and TAing, and completed senior thesis research with Emily Brodsky on borehole stability of the proposed Tohoku drill site. After earning my undergraduate degree, I spent the next couple years as a researcher at U.C. Santa Cruz. I worked on 3D seismic interpretation of faulting and fluid pathways in Costa Rica with Eli Silver, and another project with Emily Brodsky studying the permeability across fault zone architecture as measured from tidally-induced water level response in wells.
My travels, personal and for research, have taken me throughout California and the West Coast, the U.K., Ireland, the Philippines, Canada, and Ethiopia. My favorite place to spend time outdoors is in the deserts of southeastern California, and Death Valley in particular.
More to come soon!
